i've heard it said that, as we women get older, we begin to turn into our mothers.
this is a concept i have always loved because my mom is the most amazing, loving, non-judgmental, selfless woman in the world.
but the thing is, a discovery has been made. i am not turning into my mom, and probably never will.
i'm turning into
bruce.
not saying i look like him, or even have one ounce of the social skills he does, but there is so much bruce-iness in me.
although he has broken his diet coke addiction (go dad!), i think he has passed it on to me. its getting to the point where i can't function at work unless i have a diet coke with lime from fastgas.
bruce has a temper to top all others, and it is no secret that i'm not the most pleasant person to be around when i'm in a bad mood. i have the bruce temper, and also can use "the voice" that my dad used to use to scare us kids when we were young warthogs.
i tell dirty jokes sometimes, and most of them i learn from him.
neither of us are very open, touchy, or talkative.
we use probably all the same facial and verbal expressions. we don't spend much time together, yet you can still tell he's my old man. (:
not everything i got from my dad is bad. actually, i'm quite proud to be his daughter.
he has the amazing ability to make people laugh in any situation.
he knows when to laugh with you, when to laugh at you, and when to cry.
the strength i have seen him use with people who are mourning the death of a loved one is incredible.
he knows so much about everything. he knows the answer to any medical question you could ask, how to spell any word, and also dirty details on anyone in the tri-county area.
if i learn any of these qualities from my dad, i think i'll be the luckiest girl in the world.
so, if have to turn into someone, and it can't be my mom... please help me to keep turning into my daddy. (:
