take me back when the world was one block wide.

wasn't it easier in your lunch box days? always a bigger bed to crawl in to. wasn't it beautiful when you believed in everything, and everybody believed in you?

no one ever told me growing up was going to be so hard... all i wanted was to grow up and be on my own, and now i have it, i really miss those old days.

take pictures in your mind of your childhood room. memorize what it sounded like when your dad gets home. remember the footsteps, remember the words said. i just realized everything i have is someday gonna be gone.

when i was younger, i never thought the things i had would ever go away. i didn't realize that someday my mom wasn't going to be there to wake me up at 6 a.m., read me scriptures, and make me pancakes. it didn't hit me that my grandparents might not always be alive, and that every moment i spend ignoring them is a moment that i could have spent getting to know them better. the fact that my best friends could move away never even crossed my mind. i just never realized how good i had it.

if only you'd known what you know now then.

if i could go back, i'd do things differently. i wouldn't complain that i wasn't hungry when my mom made me breakfast in bed. i wouldn't fight it every time my parents wanted me to spend the summer in loa with my grandma. i would ask my dad to tell me more stories. i'd spend more summer days sewing at my grandparents. i'd make the most of every moment spent at the williams' house. i'd try harder in school. i would have treated people better. i would have kept a daily journal.

wish i'd never grown up.

  1. This hit something deep in my brain's Nostalgia Center.....
Home was home, memories of things that made us ring true, and the world WAS small and careless.
    I can't believe I forgot that.
    Thanks.
