the flying phlebotomist.

yesterday, as soon as i get home from work, hannah says, "boo. i wanna go to the pool." naturally, i get it arranged to go over to my ventana's (my old apartment) pool because i feel like i haven't been in chlorine since my swim team days.  we got all dressed up in our black bikinis (with tank tops over them, of course. hahaha) and headed over to ventana about an hour later, where my old neighbor drew met us and let us in.

we played in the pool for a while, but then it got too cold so we jumped in the hot tub.  there were some random guys there and we started talking, when one of them (an aviation student at you-vee-you) casually mentions that he is taking a phlebotomy course and he needs people to practice on.  of course, i immediately volunteer myself.  (here's something you should know about brielle turner.  i love needles.  the fact that you can stick a needle through skin and into a vein fascinates me.  call me crazy, but i LOVE getting my blood drawn.)  so, random boy leaves and comes back with a bag full of needs, vials, and sanitary swabs.  i wasn't scared one bit.  i've had this done a lot at the doctor's, so its not a big deal, and he seemed to know what he was doing.  as he is checking for my vein, he decides to casually mention the fact that i am actually his first patient... yes, panic started to set in.  i knew he couldn't kill me, but i also knew if he hit my tendon it would hurt pretty bad.  everyone was gathered around to watch, so i felt like there was no backing down at that point.  so i just closed my eyes and prayed for the best.

needless to say, it didn't hurt at all.  he did amazingly well for it being his first time. (thank the Lord!)  it didn't seem to weird at the time, but looking back at it i realize i probably wasn't smart to let a stranger draw my blood. at the pool.  maybe i'm a little too trusting sometimes! (:  but that, my friends, is my monday night adventure with the flying phlebotomist.

hannah && i in pooltime bliss. little did we know what was in store for us...

this is the moment he confessed i was his first. haha (: that is my nervous laugh.
needle. in. my. skin.
if you didn't know, this is what anemic blood looks like.
i didn't even get to keep my blood. what is this? stinkin proper disposal.

only in college would a day at the pool turn into a doctor's visit. p.s. i love it (:
